SITE managers working for local & have scooped three prestigious awards in a national competition to find the best-run building sites in Britain.

Mark Thomson, gained official recognition for the excellence of the Barratt Vogue site he runs in , with the receipt of a Pride in the Job Quality Award. This is Mark’s Fourth accolade for his outstanding pride in the job and quality of work.

He was joined on the winners’ podium by fellow Quality Award winners Richard Cadman, who runs the David Wilson site at Serenity, Doncaster and Mark Titley, who is based at the brand new David Wilson Bradley Park development in .

This is Mark Titley’s first role as a Site Manager and to receive a Quality Award in his first year is a great achievement and hugely deserved for his dedication and hard work at the innovative, new development.

The Pride in the Job Quality Awards are the most coveted in the housebuilding industry. They are awarded after the construction standard setting body NHBC (National House-Building Council) carries out a series of spot check site inspections to select the best-organised and best-quality developments.

Almost 13,000 site managers throughout the UK were judged on every aspect of their job, including technical skill, quality workmanship, customer service and site safety.

All three site managers will now go forward to the final round of the competition which will select the best site manager in Britain.

Paul Newman, Managing Director of Barratt & David Wilson Yorkshire East said: “The official recognition of the jobs which Mark Titley, Richard Cadman and Mark Thomson are doing shows that Barratt & David Wilson is building some of the best quality homes in the country right here in Yorkshire.”

“The site manager plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality new homes and that is why we are so delighted with all three of these national awards.”

“We are determined to continue operating at the highest possible level and deliver hundreds more homes of exceptional quality in Yorkshire in the next 12 months.”

is turning its efforts to helping a new type of customer this month by building new homes for some of our most endangered species of garden birds.

Yorkshire’s leading upmarket will mark for a second consecutive year by putting up dozens of nest boxes at its developments across the region.

The move comes as many much-loved species of garden birds continue to decline. In the last 30 years starling numbers have fallen by 77 per cent, house sparrows by 64 per cent, blackbirds 39 per cent and robins 37 per cent, according to an annual survey by the .

The phenomenon is attributed to the loss of gardens and suitable nesting sites in modern houses so David Wilson Yorkshire East will help to counter the trend by installing nest boxes in the homes of purchasers who move in during February.

Last year the upmarket housebuilder built dozens of comfortable new homes for Yorkshire’s avian residents. This year staff hope to put up even more of the nest boxes, which are perfectly suited to starlings, house sparrows and other traditional hole-nesting species.

“A beautiful environment complete with native plants and traditional garden birds is an integral part of the communities we build,” said , Sales Director at David Wilson Yorkshire East.”

“That is why we are committed to doing everything we can to support the wildlife at our developments and create new habitats that will be sustainable for generations to come.”

“The peak of the nesting season is in May but it is important to put up nesting boxes well in advance so that birds can become accustomed to them. We are therefore acting now to put nest boxes on both newly built homes and suitable trees at the development.”

Jeff Baker of the British Trust for Ornithology said: “We are delighted that David Wilson Yorkshire East is supporting our 2011 National Nest Box Week. The fact that a leading housebuilder is showing the way to help our feathered friends is a very exciting development.”

National Nest Box Week runs from 14-21st February 2011 and is organised by the British Trust for Ornithology, Britain’s leading bird research charity. For further information visit www.bto.org/nnbw
